Were There Any Hits at the Grammys?
This past Sunday night, the Grammys took place. For many the musical performances drew the attention of millions. For others, they wanted to see their favorite stars earn the coveted awards. But even before the big award show started, millions upon millions tune in for the FASHION!
I am definitely a huge fan of this years Grammy nominees but the looks were what I wanted to see!
The Grammys is an annual event, I wonder if the elegance and wardrobe events have changed during the years?
The first annual Grammys took place in 1959.
"On May 4, 1959, many of music’s elite—including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Gene Autry, Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini and André Previn—gathered for a black-tie dinner and awards presentation inside the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton. At the same time, other new Academy members were gathering at a function held simultaneously in New York City. “The GRAMMY Awards were a formal event from the beginning and very much in keeping with the times,” says Christine Farnon, who was instrumental in organizing the first show and would go on to become The Academy’s Executive Vice President. “As I recall, no one objected to dressing black-tie back then, though like so much else, that would change eventually”(Grammy.com).
The Grammys began as a black tie event but can we say the same for the previous Grammys that happened this Sunday?
For me, I believe that the Grammys is nowhere near as formal as it was compared to the first Grammys ever held.
At the first Grammys, you can see the pictures of Frank Sinatra dressed in his elegant and classic black tuxedo and tie.
Compared to now we would see Lil Uzi Vert dressed in an all black gothic look...
Fashion will always change with the time period because fashion is a direct reflection of whats happening in the world during that time period.
This has always been a true statement and the Grammys is a direct reflection of this quote.
My favorite Grammys look this year included SZA, Ashanti, Eve and Donald Glover in his all white tuxedo.
All of the looks I loved were classy, elegant and direct reflection of how to dress up at a classic event.
Ms. Coco Chanel has always said it best, "Fashion changes, Style endures."
